The 2012/2013 Charles Morgan Scholarship has been awarded to Mr. Tyler Reid, Oklahoma State University. The Charles Morgan Scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship awarded to a student in a four-year fire protection and safety engineering technology program.
Tyler is in the Fire Protection and Safety Technology (FPST) program at the University and will graduate in December 2013. During the academic year, his time is solely devoted to his studies. However, over the past few years, his summer break has afforded him the opportunity to work at Marathon Oil as an industrial hygiene intern and at Lockheed Martin as a safety intern. Both of these internships have provided him with hands on experience for his future endeavors. Tyler emphasized that the scholarship has reduced the financial burden which most students face and he is very appreciative of NFPA for providing assistance in pursuing his education in FPST.
His future plans include furthering his education by pursuing a career in the energy field and plans to obtain a masters degree in occupational safety and industrial hygiene along with becoming a Certified Safety Professional and Certified Industrial Hygienist.
